Tonight I am hosting a christmas party at my house for the first time. I decided I wanted to change things up and do a White Elephant with a twist. There will be three rounds, one made, one used, and one bought gift. Since bead sprites is something I’m known for, I figured I might as well do something that makes sense. Here is the creation I’m giving away tonight, a 3D Zelda piece. It is the first time I attempted anything 3D and to be honest, its psuedo 3D. I’ve seen some amazing works by other people that are full on 3D, but for the purposes of this project, this was good enough for me. The mirror in the back of the box was originally unwanted, but decided to utilize it by allowing you to see the back side of link, again creating the 3d-ish vibe.

Commisions

I seem to get emails about twice a month asking whether I would be willing to commission a piece. I wanted to make a post to let people know that things are relatively busy in my life at the moment (Hence the lack of updates), but the answer is ‘yes’, I am open for commissions. Please take note, that the more work you do for me ahead of time, the cheaper/easier/faster it will be for me to produce. I’d like an epic battle scene from Final Fantasy IV that includes Cecil and Kain fighting Golbez is a lot easier to design than simply saying ‘can you make me a final fantasy scene’. Feel free to send an email if you have any additional questions/specifics you’d like to ask me about and I’d be happy to start a conversation of how to get the process going. Pricing is pretty much a piece by piece basis and depends on too many factors to list here.

Sprites will play when the gamers away ! See what happens when one little sprite gets left alone for too long in this stop motion adventure. I have been building bead sprites as a hobby for a few years now, and Rob recently started getting into chiptuny esque stuff on my last record….. how it took us this long to collaborate Ill never know.. This video took six months to build and survived numerous obstacles life threw at us over the last few months. It is our homage to many of the nerdy things that Rob and I share a love for.

Megaman 2: Ending

I was commissioned to work on this scene and was pretty pleased with how it came out. I utilized photoshop to move around pieces to get all the imagery/emotion attached to the scene without needing to create a ridiculous large piece. It was the first time doing an NES game for a large epic scale piece and I feel the colors pop pretty well.

Calendar of Awesomeness

Steven Ashford has been mentioned many times here on this site and he once again gets a special mention for creating an awesome Christmas gift for me this year (2010). This is one of those dry erase calendar boards, but with a unique twist. Hanging down on either side of the board are two frames. One has the month (cleverly modified depending on the game) and the other has a bead sprite + background. All of the months represent either a game we played together growing up, or simply some of my favorite characters/games. He even went to the lengths of adding counter weights to the back in order for them to hang evenly.

These are the 4 favorite characters of a friend of mine. I originally planned to have the background be like the bealtes cover with the crosswalk, but it wasn’t looking very good. Then I decided to leave it black, but then it was too boring. In the end I printed out a background. I rushed the job to get it done before an xmas party, so its not perfect, but it works.
